LM78L82ACZ - Three terminal regulator positive

The front three-terminal regulated LM78LXX series offers several fixed output voltages making it useful in a wide range of applications. When used as a Zener diode/resistor replacement, the LM78LXX typically results in two orders of magnitude improvement in effective output impedance and reduced quiescent current. These regulators can provide relevant local regulatory cards, eliminating single-point distribution and regulatory-related issues. This voltage allows the LM78LXX to be used in logic systems, instrumentation, audio and other solid state electronics. The LM78LXX is available in plastic TO-92(Z) package, plastic SO-8(M) package, chip size package (8-bump micro SMD) using National Semiconductor's micro SMD packaging technology. A regulator with adequate heat dissipation can provide 100mA of output current. The current limit is included to limit the peak output current to a safe value. Safe area protection is provided for output transistors to limit internal power dissipation. If the internal power dissipation becomes too high to provide high heat dissipation, a thermal shutdown circuit takes over to prevent the IC from overheating.
