Overview
The LR6 from Supertex is a high input voltage, low output current linear regulator. It is available in a three-terminal fixed output voltage version in TO-92-220 and SOT-89 packages, and an adjustable voltage version in an 8-pin SOIC package. "The 3-terminal version functions like any other 3-terminal low voltage except that it allows the use of a much higher input voltage. It eliminates the need for a power-heavy resistor when starting the circuit in a switching power supply. In this application, Current comes from high voltage line only at startup. Only leakage current flows after startup thus reducing continuous output power dissipation to a few milliwatts. Adjustable voltage version allows output trim voltage from 8V to 12V. This version can also be connected to increase output current An external depletion MOSFET. When used with the Supertex depletion MOSFET, the DN2540N5, a 150mA implementation.
