LT1573 - Low Dropout PNP Regulator Driver
The LT®1573 is designed to provide a voltage regulator driver IC a low cost solution for applications requiring high current, low dropout and fast transient response. When combined with an external PNP power transistor, the device provides low dropout voltage with load current up to 5A at 0.35V. The LT1573 circuit is designed for extremely fast transient response. This greatly reduces bulk storage capacitors when regulators are used in applications with fast, high current load transients. To keep cost and complexity low, the LT1573 uses a new time delay latching overcurrent protection technique that eliminates the need for an external current sense resistor. The base drive is limited instantaneously protected, and a time delay latch protects the regulator circuit for continuous short periods. The LT1573 is available as a fixed output voltage of 2.5V, 2.8V and 3.3V with an adjustable regulated output range of 1.27V to 6.8V. The output accuracy is better than 1% to meet the fast key regulation requirements of the microprocessor. A special 8-pin, fused lead surface mount package is used to minimize the regulator footprint and provide adequate heat dissipation.
