MAX1666S - Advanced Li-Ion Battery Pack Protection

The MAX1666 provides complete protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcharge current, discharge current from a 4-cell Li-Ion battery to a 2-cell battery, and cells that do not match Li-Ion batteries. The voltage in each cell of the battery pack is checked and compared to programmable thresholds in other cells in the pack. The MAX1666 overcurrent protects the battery pack with a programmable pack disconnect condition from the load. The on-chip power MOSFET driver controls the external P-channel MOSFET to disconnect the external terminals in the event of cell failure. The MAX1666 employs a unique timing schedule that allows three modes of operation for optimum performance and battery savings. The MAX1666 can work in a stand-alone configuration or with a microcontroller. These are the three versions with the "S" version monitoring two Li-ion cells the "V" version monitoring three cells, and the "X" version monitoring four cells.
