ADM660-CMOS Switched Capacitor Voltage Converter
The ADM660/ADM8660 charge pump voltage converters can be used to invert the input voltage to VOUT = VIN or dual (ADM660 only) to VOUT = 2" VIN. Input voltages ranging from +1.5 V to +7 V can be inverted to -1.5 V to -7 V output supply. This inverting scheme is ideal for single supply generating a negative rail system. Only two small external capacitors are required for the charge pump. Output currents greater than 50mA are achievable with 90% efficiency while Greater than 80% efficiency up to 100 mA. A frequency control (FC) input pin is used to select 25 kHz or 120 kHz charge pump operation. This is used to optimize capacitor size and quiescent current. With 25 kHz is selected, an external capacitor of 10 μF is suitable, while with a 120 kHz capacitor, it may be reduced to 2.2 MF. The frequency of the oscillator ADM660 can also be controlled externally with the OSC input or by driving this input capacitor connected with a External clock. In practical applications where a higher supply voltage is required it is possible to use the ADM660 with dual input voltages. With input voltages from 2.5 V to 7 V, output voltages from 5 V to 14 V are achievable , up to 100 mA output current. The ADM8660 uses a low-power shutdown pin (SD) instead of an external oscillator (OSC) pin. This can be used to disable the device and reduce quiescent current to 300 nA The ADM660 is a pin-compatible upgrade to the MAX660, MAX665, ICL7660 and LTC1046. The ADM660/ADM8660 are available in 8-pin DIP and narrow SOIC packages. The ADM660 is also available in a 16-pin TSSOP package.
