AIC1660 - Switched Capacitor Voltage Converter
The AIC1660 is a monolithic CMOS switched capacitor voltage converter. Designed to build an improved direct replacement for the popular 7660 and LTC1044, the main function of the AIC1660 is to convert a positive input voltage range of 1.5V to 6V to a corresponding negative output voltage range of -1.5V to -6V. The input voltage can also be doubled (VOUT = 2VIN) divided by (VOUT = VIN/2), or multiplied by (VOUT = ± nVIN), as shown in the application example below. The chip contains a series of DC power regulators, oscillators, control circuits and four output power MOS switches. The frequency of the oscillator can additionally be lowered by an external capacitor on the OSC pin of the oscillator, or the oscillator may be driven by an external clock. The boost function increases the frequency of the oscillator to optimize performance for specific applications. The "LV" terminal can be connected to GND for improved operation at low input voltages (VIN £3V), or left floating for input voltages greater than 3V to improve power consumption. The AIC1660 offers a combination of performance superior to previous designs, low output impedance, low quiescent current, high efficiency, and loss by eliminating diode drop. The only external components required are two low-cost electrolytic capacitors.
