UCC3913 - Negative Voltage Hot Swap Power Manager
The UCC1913 family of negative high voltage circuit breakers provides complete power management, hot swap, and fault handling capabilities. The IC references a negative input voltage and connects to ground through an external drive resistor, which is essentially a current drive as opposed to a conventional voltage drive. The on-board 10V shunt regulator fails from the overvoltage protection IC and serves as a programming reference for the maximum allowable output current draw. All control and internal management functions are integrated and externally programmable. These include: fault current level, maximum output current sourcing, maximum fault time, soft-start time, and average power limits. During a constant fault event, an internal timer will limit the time on from less than 0.1% to a maximum of 3%. Duty cycle modulation depends on the current to the PL pin, which is a voltage function across the FET, and will limit the average power dissipation in the FET. The fault level is fixed at 50mV across the current sense amplifier to minimize total dropout. Fault current level setting with external current sense resistor. The maximum allowable source current is programmed by the divider to generate a fixed voltage from VDD on the IMAX pin. The current level, when the output appears as a current source, is equal to VIMAX/RSENSE. If desired it can be programmed with a capacitor, a A controlled current starts on the IMAX pin. When the output current falls below the fault, the output device powers up. When the output current exceeds the fault level, but is less than programmed on the IMAX pin, the output's maximum draw level remains on, and the fault timer Start charging the CT. Once the CT charges to 2.5V, the output device turns off and performs a retry some time later. When the output current reaches the maximum output current level, it outputs a current source that limits the output current to the set value defined by IMAX Other features of the UCC1913 family include undervoltage lockout, 8-pin small outline package (SOIC) and dual inline (DIL) packages.
