MAX5911 - Simple Switching Technology - 48V Hot Swap Switch
The MAX5911/MAX5912 are fully integrated hot-swap switches for the negative rail. These devices can be safely inserted and removed from a circuit card backplane or port in the field without the negative power rails that cause problematic glitches. They also monitor the control panel with a logic level FAULT output if various circuit parameters and disconnected loads fail. The MAX5911/MAX5912 operate over a voltage range of -16V to -65V, allowing hot-swappable IP phones to be a hub, but not limited to this operation. At startup, internal power FETs regulate current between the backplane supply and the load to 280mA from the MAX5911 and 415mA to the MAX5912. After startup, the FET is fully boosted to reduce its resistance. To ensure robust operation, the MAX5911/MAX5912 contain built-in safety features to prevent damage to the internal FETs. They include an enable input, which in response to a positive logic signal (+3.3 V or +5 V) allows the host system to disconnect the load. Enable is also used to reset a latched device after a fault. The MAX5911/MAX5912 Simple Swap Technology™ hot-swap ICs monitor four parameters for these fault conditions: undervoltage lockout (UVLO), power no good, zerocurrent detection, and thermal shutdown. These devices are available over the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The MAX5911 and MAX5912 come in 8-pin and 16-pin SOIC packages, respectively.
