MAX5902ABEUT - Analog IC
The SOT23 hot-swap controllers MAX5902/MAX5903 allow circuit cards to be safely, hot-swapped into a live backplane without causing glitches on the power rails. These devices operate from +9 V to 72 V and provide the easiest hot-swap solution except for external P-channel MOSFETs that eliminate all external components. The MAX5902/MAX5903 limit inrush current loads and provide overcurrent circuit breaker protection. The MAX5902/MAX5903 limit the inrush current by gradually turning the MOSFET on to the external inrush current when the start-up circuit breaker function is disabled. Once the external MOSFET is fully enhanced, the circuit breaker function is enabled, and the MAX5902/MAX5903 provide overcurrent protection to monitor the voltage drop across the external MOSFET's on-resistance. The MAX5902/MAX5903 include undervoltage lockout (UVLO) function, ON/OFF control input and a power-good output, PGOOD (MAX5902) or PGOOD (MAX5903). A built-in thermal shutdown feature is also included to protect the external MOSFET from overheating. The MAX5902/MAX5903 provide latching or auto-retry fault management and breaker thresholds of 300mV, 400mV or 500mV. Both the MAX5902 and MAX5903 are available in a small SOT23 package and are specified for the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. For specific ordering information, see the selection guide at the end of the data sheet.
