The GS7660 is a monolithic CMOS switched capacitor voltage converter designed to directly replace the popular ICL7660, MAX1044LTC1044. They perform supply voltage conversion from positive to negative input voltages ranging from +1.5 V to 6.0 V to their negative complement of -1.5V to -6.0V. It is also possible to double the input voltage (VOUT=2VIN), halve (VOUT=VIN/2), or multiply (VOUT=±n.VIN). The chip contains a series of power regulators, oscillators, control circuits and four power MOS switches. The oscillator, when unloaded, oscillates at a nominal frequency of 10 kHz and an input voltage of 5.0V. This frequency can be reduced by an external addition capacitor, to the "OSC" terminal or through an external overload frequency source. An oscillator "boost" function to increase the frequency of the available oscillator will optimize certain parameters for performance. The LV input can be tied to ground to improve low voltage operation (VIN≤3V), or left open for input voltage greater than 3V to reduce power dissipation. The GS7660 offers superior performance over earlier high efficiency by combining low output impedance and low quiescent design current, eliminating diode drop losses. The only external components required are two low-cost electrolytic capacitors.
