The TDA4817 contains all the functions to supply sinusoidal line current consumption and power factor close to unity for electronic ballast and switching power supply designs. The TDA4817 controls the boost converter with variable frequency in discontinuous (triangular shaped current as an active harmonic filter) mode. A typical application is in electronic ballasts, especially when a large number of such lamps are concentrated at one line power point. The output voltage of the filter is regulated with high efficiency. So the device can easily operate at different line voltages (110/220 VAC) without any switching. The TDA4817 is an 8-pin economical version of the TDA4814 with no reference voltage output and a start/stop supervisory circuit.
