LT1248 - Power Factor Controller
Features Over a wide load range with line current average High power factor operation without switching transient overvoltage protection Minimum line current deadband typical 250mA Start-up supply current suppresses line switching noise Synchronization capability Low quiescent current: 9mA fast 1.5A Peak Current Gate Driver
The LT®1248 provides active power factor correction for general purpose offline power systems. By using a fixed high frequency PWM current average, without the need for slope compensation, the LT1248 achieves far lower line current distortion with less magnetic components than either peak current detection or zero systems used in continuous and current switching methods discontinuous operating mode. The LT1248 uses a voltage amplifier that incorporates a square gain multiplier function to reduce the AC gain at the optical output load, thereby maintaining low line current distortion and high system stability. The LT1248 also provides filtering to reject line switching noise which can cause instability when fed multipliers. The low bias voltage line current deadband minimizes the multiplier on the current input. The LT1248 provides many protection features, including peak current limit and overvoltage protection, and can operate at frequencies as high as 300kHz.
