The DS1869 DastatTM is a digital rheostat or potentiometer. The device offers 64 possible uniform tap points across the entire resistance range. Standard resistance ranges between 10kΩ, 50kΩ and 100kΩ. The Dastat can control the contact closure input of a switch or the input of a digital source, such as a CPU's. The DS1869 operates from a 3V or 5V supply. The tap position is maintained in the lack of power through the use of an EEPROM memory cell array. EEPROM memory cell arrays will withstand more than 50,000 writes. Two standard IC packages are available, including an 8-pin 300-mil DIP and an 8-pin 208-mil SOIC package. The DS1869 can be configured to use a single button, dual button or input on digital sources under different power conditions. This is illustrated in Figure 1 and Figure 2. The DS1869 pinout allows access to the potentiometers RL, RH, and the wiper, RW across both ends. Control inputs include the digital source input, D, the up contact input, UC, and the down contact input, DC. The other pins are positive, +V, and negative, V, power input. The DS1869 is specified to operate from -40°C to +85°C.
