The DS1666 is a solid-state potentiometer with a digitally controlled resistive element. "Potentiometers are made up of 127 resistive sections. The resistive sections are between each other and the wiper points across the potentiometer are accessed. "The resistor array controls the wiper position by the CS, U/D and INC inputs. The tap position defaults to a position of up to 10% power. The resolution DS1666 is shown in Figure 1. Rather than providing a potentiometer, the unique DS1666 digital audio resistor is designed to be log-linear over its entire range. The lower half of the potentiometer each advances 1% of the total resistance to an advanced 3% scale, providing precise amplification of low volume signals. The upper half of the potentiometer resists 2% of the advanced scale for every 1% advance, providing the high volume amplification required for lower resolution gain.
