HIP6005CB - Step-Down Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) Controller and Output Voltage Monitor

The HIP6005 provides a complete control and protection of DC-DC converters optimized for high performance microprocessor applications. It is designed to drive N-channel MOSFETs in a standard buck topology. The HIP6005 integrates all control, output regulation, monitoring and protection functions in a single package. The output voltage of the converter is easy to adjust and precisely regulated. The HIP6005 includes a 5-input digitalto digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that can adjust the output voltage from 2.1VDC to 3.5VDC in 0.1V increments, and from 1.3VDC to 2.1VDC in 0.05V steps. Precision reference and voltage mode regulation maintain the selected output voltage within ±1% over temperature and line voltage. The HIP6005 provides simple single feedback loop, voltagemode control with fast transient response. It includes a 200kHz free-running triangle wave oscillator, adjustable below 50kHz over 1MHz. The error amplifier features a 15MHz gain-bandwidth product and 6V/µs slew rate for fast transient high conversion bandwidth performance. The resulting PWM duty cycle ranges from 0% to 100%. The HIP6005 monitors the output voltage with a window comparison to track the output of the DAC and issues power to within ±10% of the output when the signal is well powered. The HIP6005 is protected against overcurrent conditions by inhibiting PWM operation. Built-in overvoltage protection, trigger external thyristor crowbar input power. The HIP6005 display currently uses an RDS(ON) upper MOSFET to eliminate the need for a current sense resistor.
