MAX1845-Dual, High-Efficiency, Step-Down Controller with Accurate Current Limit

The MAX1845 is a dual PWM controller configured in a step-down (buck) topology that provides high efficiency, excellent transient response and high DC output necessary to step down high battery voltage accuracy to generate low voltage chipset and memory power supplies in notebook computers. The CS_ input can be used with a low-side sense resistor to provide accurate current limit or can be connected to LX_, a current-sense element with a low-side MOSFET. On demand PWM controller is free running, constant input feedforward time. This configuration provides ultra-fast transient response, wide input-output differential range, low supply current, and load regulation stress characteristics. The MAX1845 is simple and easy to make up. Single-stage step-down conversion allows the MAX1845 to step directly down the high-voltage battery pack for the highest possible efficiency. Also, two-stage conversion (stepping down from the 5V system supply instead of the battery at a higher switching frequency) allows the lowest physical size. The MAX1845 is used for chipsets, DRAM, CPU I/O, or other low supply voltages down to 1V. For the single-output version, refer to the MAX1844 data sheet. The MAX1845 is available in 28-pin QSOP and 36-pin thin QFN packages.
