MAX1640 - Adjustable Output, Current Source for Switch-Mode Synchronous Rectifiers

The MAX1640/MAX1641's CMOS, adjustable output, switch-mode current sources operate from +5.5 V to a 26 V input, making them ideal for microprocessor-controlled battery chargers. Charge Current, Maximum Output Program Voltage, Pulse Trickle Charge External Resistor. Programmable off-time modifies the switching frequency and suppresses unwanted harmonics in noise-sensitive circuits. The MAX1640's highside current sense allows the load to be connected directly to ground, eliminating potential ground errors. "The MAX1641 integrates a low-side current sense. The MAX1640/MAX1641 step-down pulse-width modulation (PWM) controllers use an external P-channel MOSFET switch and an optional external N-channel MOSFET for synchronous rectification for improved efficiency. Internal low dropout Linear regulators provide the power supply with internal reference and circuitry and gate drive N-channel synchronous rectification. The MAX1640/MAX1641 are available in space-saving, narrow 16-pin QSOP packages.
