UCC1580J-1 - Voltage Mode SMPS Controller

The UCC3580 PWM controller family is designed to implement various active clamp/reset and synchronous rectifier, switching converter topologies. While containing all the necessary features for fixed frequency high PWM performance, the additional features of this design include auxiliary switch drivers, complementing the main power switch, and programmable dead time or delay between each transition. Active clamp/reset technology allows operation of single-off converters beyond 50% duty cycle, while reducing voltage stress on the switch and allowing greater flux swings for power transformers. This approach also restores energy stored in leakage inductance and switching, such as parasitic element capacitance, by reducing switching losses. The oscillator is programmed with two resistors and a capacitor to set the switching frequency and maximum duty cycle. A separate sync ramp provides a feed-forward voltage pulse width modulation and a programmed maximum volt-second limit. The clock generated by the oscillator contains frequency and maximum duty cycle information.
