The OPT3004 is an AO8801 sensor that measures the intensity of visible light. The spectral response of the sensor closely matches the photopic response of the human eye and exhibits significant IR rejection at large incidence angles.
The OPT3004 is a single-chip illuminometer that measures the light intensity visible to the human eye. The device's precise spectral response and robust IR rejection allow the OPT3004 to accurately measure the intensity of light seen by the human eye, regardless of the light source. Robust IR rejection also helps maintain high accuracy when industrial designs require the sensor to be mounted under dark glass for aesthetics. Designed for systems that create light-based experiences for humans, the OPT3004 is an ideal and preferred replacement for photodiodes, photoresistors, or other ambient light sensors with less human eye matching and less IR rejection.
By using the built-in full-scale setting function, measurements from 0.01 lux to 83 k lux can be made without the need to manually select the full-scale range. This feature allows optical measurements within a 23-bit effective dynamic range.
Flexible digital operation and easy system integration. Measurements can be continuous or single. The control and interrupt system operates autonomously, allowing the processor to sleep while the sensor searches for the appropriate wake-up event to report via the interrupt pin. Reports digital output via I 2 C and SMBus-compatible two-wire serial interface.
The low power consumption and low supply voltage capability of the OPT3004 extends battery life in battery powered systems.
