Is 8K Video Recording Strong? Galaxy S20 Ultra Trial of Various Video Recording Features
This time, I pulled out the video test shot of the Galaxy S20 Ultra separately. It can be seen that it has more video recording functions. To review, the S20 Ultrs has a total of video related features: unlimited 8K video, unlimited 4K@60fps, recording HDR10 + , zoom video, 4K video anti-shake, super anti-shake, professional video, night time-lapse, long-distance focus radio, etc., if you add one-key recording, depth-of-field video, hand-painted dynamic photography, video in Canada and the United States Interesting functions such as color, slow motion, etc., the S20 Ultra is equal to high-end, community use, and even video for amateur creation.
But no matter how many modes, the image quality, brightness, BR106 focusing speed, steady hand... etc. are still the most important. Let's take a look at these basic performances in each mode.
Let's take a look at the actual test shot. Some people may not be able to run the computer, or the network is not strong enough to jump to 4K. I have put all the original files of the videos here. If you find it strange to watch YouTube, you can refer to the original files.

8K video
It is very simple to switch to 8K when shooting. Just select the resolution directly on the screen. You can also see from the screenshots that when shooting 8K, you can still apply the effect of automatic HDR.
While shooting 8K videos, you can also take pictures (to get about 10 million pixel photos), and when you watch the video on your phone after shooting, you can zoom in to see more details, and capture and save the screen as a photo.
Can you experience the magic of 8K movies after watching the movie? Maybe there is an 8K TV.
Personally, the positive aspects of this feature are:
1. The picture quality is not bad, with photo-like clarity, brightness and color are also mastered to the scene.
2. I took 8K shots while walking around, and found that the picture is quite stable. It is great to apply anti-shake.
3. The phone does not feel hot during the shooting process.
4. YouTube also accepts 8K videos. After uploading, about a day later, it will be converted to 8K for viewing.
In addition, watching the video, I think HDR is useful, but not all pictures can be corrected. For example, the bright part of the white dog hair that hits the sun cannot be corrected in real time, but it may be a bit difficult even if the camera is shooting. What's more, it's 8K, and it can be corrected by hand-spot metering at this time.
But the disadvantages are:
1.) The focusing speed is not fast enough. For example, in the scene of shooting in situ, although the dog head was turned away, it returned to its original position, but the mobile phone did not have real-time autofocus. In the second half, I locked the AF with my hand, so that it did not lose focus again.
2. In addition, you can also know from the above mark that the video is quite large. In fact, when the S20 Ultra shoots 8K, it will be forced to shoot high-efficiency video (HEVC format), but it is still easy to shoot GB-level size. But if you want to back up in the cloud, you will find that it takes up a lot of space... In view of this, I think unless it is a beautiful large scenery, you should not need to open it to 8K to shoot.
3. I don't know if you can see it. These 8K videos are all 24fps. There are not many settings to choose from when shooting 8K, including frame size.
4. I'm not sure if everyone's computers can run 8K videos on YouTube, or if 8K screens are not yet popular enough to see the 8K picture quality. (So the pre-order gift should be a Samsung 8K Quantum TV... Huh?)
In view of this, I think that supporting 8K shooting is a configuration that shows muscles. It can show the camera performance of the S20 Ultra and how fast the 5G transmission speed is, but it is not necessarily a feature that will be used frequently.
Hmm... We can't understand how fast 5G transmits 8K video, but the "quick sharing" function can be used immediately.
It's AirDrop between Samsung devices, fast sharing for the S20 series, can transfer to 5 nearby Galaxy devices at the same time, I haven't paired with another S20, but with Note10+ to transfer a 2.2GB video, it only cost 38 second. I think Samsung devices will be updated to support it in the future.
What about streaming 8K videos to non-Galaxy phones? All I have to do is install peer-to-peer streaming apps from Google Play.
It is rumored that Android 11 will break the brand boundary, and the point-to-point fast transmission function that is common to Android phones.
Zoom video
After the iPhone 11 Pro and Huawei P30 Pro, I began to notice the zoom video, and the S20 Ultra with high-magnification zoom capability, of course, I also want to experience zoom in video. In addition to the image quality, you can also look at the smoothness of switching, focusing speed, and hand-held image stability after zooming.
It was mentioned in the photo article that 1 to 4 times of the S20 Ultra is taken with the digital zoom of the 108MP main camera, and more than 4 times is taken with the telephoto lens, and the main lens assists the mixing operation. I don't know if there is a hybrid zoom when zooming video, but the lens used is the same as the camera, so you will see 2x, 3x video quality, not as good as 4x.
The maximum digital zoom can be up to 20x when recording video, but for 4K video, I personally think that the maximum available multiplier is 5x, and the picture quality will not be good if it exceeds it.
In addition, after zooming, there is the problem of slow autofocus response, or the hand focus is direct.
At the same time, it can also be seen that it is not like the iPhone 11 Pro, which can be continuously zoomed smoothly by dragging. I think that the lens position is really too wide, and the image quality of 2x and 3x is much worse than that of 4x. The zoom picture is also not necessarily good-looking.
However, when zooming in handheld video, the picture stability is quite good (the telephoto lens has OIS, and the video also has a video anti-shock function).
This is the position where the hand is held to the head, and the bird (turtledove?) resting on the tree is photographed. At the beginning, it was shot with 5x zoom, and then it was cut to 10x. Although there is still a little trace of hand shaking, but Overall, the picture is still stable. But after that, my hands are sore...Orz
Zoom video recording also appears to be usable (5x zoom video), and handheld shots are fairly stable in good lighting. However, there is also the problem that the autofocus is not fast enough. It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that manual focusing on the screen will not miss the picture. In addition, it is a pity that you cannot shoot a smooth continuous zoom (sometimes if you want to shoot a creative film, the picture of the sliding lens is better. tell a story)
Various video anti-shake
During the test shooting, I found that when walking around and shooting various resolutions, the video can be more or less shock-proof, and even the 4K@60fps picture can be relatively stable, which increases the practicality of the S20 Ultra travel video.
I tried to move around a bit when shooting 8K, here are other resolutions.
The first is 4K@60fps. The front part is shot in place to see the picture quality, and the back part is walking and a short run to see the shockproof effect. (Suddenly I wonder if there are still many people's computers that can't run 4K60fps?)
The picture quality, color and brightness are very good. Blue is blue, green, green, red and red. The color tone is a little brighter than what the eyes can see. It shows the feeling of sunlight, and the voice of people's speech is also very clear.
It is still very stable to take pictures while walking with the hand held, and the stability is also good whether you are facing the front or the side when running. Hand-held video recording in this light, the stability can be assured.
However, everyone must have found the problem of focusing. In fact, not only 4K@60fps, but also the close-up distance established on other mobile phones when recording, and the S20 Ultra needs to be slightly farther.
In addition, this resolution does not seem to be very good in focusing stability when shooting small objects or things that move around at medium distances, at least compared with my experience of recording video on the Note10+, it is obviously unstable, so that It takes a hand to focus. Although there is a way to solve it, many people are accustomed to hand it over to the automatic camera when recording video, and then take pictures while walking and watching the scenery. Rest assured, users will have to work a little harder. I hope it's just because the software hasn't been updated yet...
The S20 Ultra also has super anti-shake, which can provide a more stable picture during more strenuous running, cycling, and even bouncing bed videos. Videos with this effect can be shot up to 1080p -ic/" title="1080p model" >1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p -ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic /" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p-ic/" title= "1080p model">1080p-ic/" title="1080p model">1080p/ 30fps, although the picture quality is average, but the stabilization effect is very good, you can use it with confidence when recording big action.
fun recording modes
The S20 series also provides some western or interesting video modes, such as professional video, one-click recording, night time-lapse, and the depth-of-field preview video that existed before. Interesting mode, if you encounter a suitable scene, or if you want to shoot a short film or something, you can use it to shoot an atmospheric clip.
professional video
Professional video is a mode that allows you to manually adjust parameters such as exposure, white balance, focus, shutter, ISO, contrast brightness, etc. when recording. In fact, the brightness, hue, and sharpness can all be adjusted after production. The more useful ones should be manual shutter and manual focus.
One-click recording
I haven't tried one-click recording (life is too boring to encounter interesting scenes), borrow the video provided by the original factory, when you encounter a series of dynamic scenes (sports, children's games, performances, pets running and jumping) ... etc.), after selecting one-click recording and recording, in addition to the original video, an additional 3 to 10 seconds of the best clip selected by AI will be generated, fast forward, forward and backward loop, filter photo video, ultra-wide-angle photo ...etc, a variety of materials, equal to one thing, there are various dynamic and static materials that can be shared by po..
The person who took the photo did only one thing from start to finish: press the shutter. The reason why more material can be generated is that when the S20s record with one click, in addition to the main camera, the ultra-wide-angle lens is also shooting at the same time, and the AI is quickly selecting the best photos, best clips, and editing videos after recording. ...and so on, so the last short piece of play can produce a variety of materials, depending on the richness of the action, up to 14 kinds of materials can be produced, which should be quite fun to shoot children's nerves.
night time
Time-lapse video can be shot all the time. On the S20, "Night Time-lapse" has been added. The most important thing is to use it to shoot videos of traffic flow. I didn't bring a tripod during the test shooting. When I took a 2-second clip, my hand was sore. The following The video is simply post-made by the mobile phone, and this is also a small video that can be used in creation.
Remember that it has been there since Note10? The S20 series also continues to carry it. This generation of cutouts (mainly people) is much better, and the blurring effect of the S20 Ultra is very obvious. It is good to add a filter to the phone, Transitions, soundtracks are easily edited, and sharing is very useful.
You should have measured the 8K shooting, zoom video and anti-shake conditions that everyone wants to know?
Generally, there are no major problems with outdoor image quality, brightness, color tone, and stability of walking video. You can use it with confidence. However, night video depends on how bright the scene is. Walking around in a lively street scene should be ok. No matter how dark or fast, it may be better. no.
If you want to zoom video, you can rest assured to hand-held shooting, the stability is very good, the picture will not shake too much, and the picture quality is ok up to 5x zoom, of course, it is not as good as a monocular or a camera, but it is still great for mobile phones. function can be used more.
However, the autofocus stability seems to be a problem during video recording. When trying to shoot, you often need to pay attention to the screen and manually lock the focus to ensure that you can capture clear things, which is a bit troublesome. I hope this can be improved by software updates in the future.
You may not have thought that the S20 Ultra has so many built-in video tools and modes. Not only can you record casually while traveling or everyday, but you can also try an entry-level creation. More and more you need to use your mobile phone to record, you can consider it.
