Samsung Galaxy Z Flip hands-on, it's a guy you like but don't know if you want to take it home
After Samsung released its latest folding screen phone, the Galaxy Z Flip, there was a demonstration machine for hands-on play. This time, the Galaxy Z Flip 2/14 has been launched in the world one after another. It is almost a few days after the release, and consumers can have it. Presumably, the first-generation Fold has accumulated a lot of experience, so that the second-generation Z Flip can be so fast. and directly to consumers.
After a simple hands-on play, to be honest, I like the Z Flip more than the Fold, because its size, weight, thickness, appearance, etc., will make people feel that this is a machine that is closer to me. It can be used in daily life. When using it, you will not have a mobile phone that you can afford to be careful all the time. Compared with the Fold business and successful people, it is far away from me. (I don't deserve it)
Here is a more detailed, Z Flip specification sheet, click to see a larger picture, a few details are mentioned here:
1. The processor used is Snapdragon 855+.
2. Built-in 256GB capacity but does not support memory card
3. The 4G version is launched instead of 5G, and although it supports dual-SIM dual-standby BR104 , because eSIM is paired with nano-SIM, according to the passiveness of eSIM service in Taiwan, if it does not cooperate with telecom operators, it can be regarded as a single device. Card machine. But I will ask again at the final information listing press conference.
The charging power supported by the 4.3300mAh battery is: wired 15W fast charging and wireless 9W.
5. The Z Flip amplifier is a single speaker, but with headphones, Dolby Atmos sound can be applied.
6. The packaging of the Z Flip is not as luxurious as that of the Fold. It adopts general environmental protection packaging, but there are still accessories such as a protective case and AKG-tuned Type-C headphones.
play with appearance
It is said that the Z Flip is big in the palm, and finally has the opportunity to put it in the palm of your hand and feel it. The phone itself is of normal width, and it is really easy to handle when it is folded in half. Although the thickness doubles when it is closed, because it is not particularly heavy, it does not feel that the thickness is in the way, and you can put it in your pocket with peace of mind. There is an exclusive protective case in the package to prevent scratches, but I didn't see it at the scene today.
If you want to open the cover from the closed state, you can use your thumb to dig into the closed seam to open it, but because it does not provide elastic assistance, it actually needs a little force, and even has to put your finger in a little to pick up the top cover, which makes the The action of opening the lid is not very handsome. After trying it a few times, I think it is better to open it with both hands obediently.
The hinge is stepless, so it doesn't click when it's fixed at that angle. It's a bit like flipping the screen of a laptop. You can park it at any angle, but it's usually not flat or open to a table. The angle that will fall is in use.
As mentioned earlier, the thumbs in and open the lid, I would not dare if it was in the Fold, but because the Z Flip is mentioned to use a foldable ultra-thin glass screen, the hardness is high (but because of the action It was not as easy as I imagined, so I gave up playing handsome).
Although it is glass, there is still a crease in the middle. Like the Fold, it can be felt from a certain angle and when sliding the screen, and it is not hindered when browsing from the front.
It can also be seen that the screen is indeed relatively long, and the screen ratio has exceeded 21:9. Speaking of which, it is a very suitable ratio for viewing split dual screens, and both sides are not too small. If you watch a movie, you know, depending on what proportion of the movie you watch.
Borrowing the previous photo to see the inner screen of the Z Flip, in order to protect the folding screen, the border will still be thicker, but fortunately, the Z Flip looks narrower than the Fold. There are slight protrusions on the four rounded corners, so that the upper and lower screens can still maintain a little gap space when the cover is closed.
The shaft of the Z Flip is still covered, and the cam inside is basically invisible. At the press conference, it was mentioned that there are small things like fluff brushes in the shaft to prevent small dust from entering. The back is also very flat after being flattened. The appearance of the Z Flip is quite high, and there are fewer lines such as seams.
Thickness after the lid is closed. The fingerprint recognition area on the side is also a power button that can be pressed. This position is very convenient to open or close the induction (but I didn’t think that the power button can set a shortcut...Orz)
Multipurpose small screen
When the lid is closed, there is a small color screen, you can read notifications, because this screen can also be touched, so it is not impossible to do anything when the lid is closed. For example, when listening to music, you can touch to change songs, you can cut off the alarm or timer, you can also reject or answer when there is an incoming call (if you don’t turn it on, it will be amplified), and you can still perform some simple operations. And after clicking the notification on the small screen, and then opening it, the APP and content of the notification will be automatically opened, and the connection function that the folding machine should have can be achieved here.
And it can really be used as a photo viewfinder...the picture is very small.
When the lid is closed, long press the power button next to it to start the camera, and then double-tap the small screen to switch to standard or ultra-wide-angle shooting, which is more than expected.
When you open the camera, you can still open the small screen outside, and the other party can see the framing screen (self) on the small screen, which is wonderful. However, if the other party is a little far away, of course, they will not be able to see clearly.
mobile phone stand up without stand
Open it about 100 degrees and put it on the table. It is a unique usage of the up and down foldable mobile phone. There are also some interfaces in the Z Flip that are suitable.
For example, self-portrait, self-recording, video, inputting on the table... etc. It is the most convenient to be able to record oneself without using a hand or a tripod, and it should be the most convenient to follow the video while shooting. This time, Samsung and Google will cooperate with Google Duo integrates with built-in calling, can stick AR emoji, multi-person video, etc., and make full use of this foldable form.
The built-in camera function is similar to the Galaxy S20, including the new one-click recording, and also provides special modes such as professional video, depth-of-field video, night, super anti-shake...etc. Video recording is supported up to 4K/ 60fps.
I personally like the Z Flip, it is easy to tuck, not heavy, looks good, and the screen size is quite adequate. (When using Note10+, I often fall out of my pocket when I bend over, or I can't squat down after putting down my pants...)
But there is still some distance between liking and wanting to buy. At this stage, I am hesitant, and the reason why I can't give advice is the price, or it should be said value. Is it worth buying a Snapdragon 855+ for nearly $1400? Isn’t the camera function too simple? I’m a little worried about the lack of waterproofing according to my living habits, a little worry about the power of 3300mAh, or I still like the S Pen… and so on.
All hesitation is because there are too many choices in the market, but also because the Z Flip is too unique...
