The BQ25180 is a linear battery charger IC focused on small solution size and low quiescent current to extend battery life. The device is housed in an 8-ball AD5282BRU20 chip-scale package that eliminates the need for an HDI PCB process for fabrication, reducing PCB costs. The device can support charging currents up to 1A and system loads up to 2.5A.

The battery is charged using a standard Li-Ion or LiFePO4 charging profile in three stages: pre-charge, constant current and constant voltage. Thermal regulation provides maximum charge current while managing device temperature. The charger is also optimized for battery-to-battery charging with a minimum input voltage of 3V and can withstand an absolute maximum line transient of 25V. The device integrates a single button input and reset circuit to reduce the overall solution size.
