Google Pixel Buds...

Google Pixel Buds are still translation artifacts but have a lot of But.

Okay, take a serious look at the headset. This box is a storage and charging place. There is a button and a light number on it to display the power of the box and the earphone. The three white lights are the power of the box, and the single red and green light is the power of the earphone.

The headset itself has a 120mAh battery, and the box is 620mAh. According to the official specifications, the headset can listen to music for 5 hours on a single charge.

If you want to see the battery number, it is an Android phone or an iPhone.

It will be displayed after connecting on Android, otherwise you can open Google Assistant, click on the headset settings, and go to the Google accessories page to see the power. (Experts should see the keyword Google Assistant and have some doubts at this time. It doesn't matter that we explain it the same way.)

If it's an iPhone, then....you can't see the BQ29415PW , it won't be there when you connect it, and you can't view it through the iOS version of Google Assistant, but the iPhone has Siri~ You can ask Siri. (Usually, you can also check the power of other Bluetooth headsets or AirPods.)

wear

Finally arrived at the headphone body.

There is a cotton thread between the ears, which can be hung around the neck to prevent loss.

The two earplugs are quite large. If you look closely, this is the case. According to the icon on the official website, the part that is inserted into the ear is the part that outputs the sound (nonsense), and the part with R/L printed is the microphone (this position is special). ), the two metal points are the charging contacts.

The part that is stuffed into the earphone is the touch part, which is mainly click, long press, and slide, and they are all on the right ear. Different click methods are matched with different functions. The official website also has a list. Again, forgive me for being lazy.

Compared with the one-yuan coin, the size of the earplug is a bit subtle. In fact, the piece that fits into the ear is not too big. Compared with the AirPods, it is similar, but the touch piece is a bit large and is connected to the earplug, which causes the earplugs to be worn. It can't fit into the piercing, but it feels a little loose, not comfortable, and it's a little hard to put on at first.

Later I found out that there are tricks.

The part of the wire that goes through the earphone is adjustable, and it can be adjusted to about the size of a finger. When wearing it, put it into the ear socket first, and then plug the earplugs, it will be easier to wear. Although it still feels a little loose (it feels looser than wearing an AirPod), but I just went for a test run and jumped, but it didn't fall off (and it has a line that may be safer), but don't think about the sound insulation effect of such headphones. Also, as mentioned earlier, people with small pierced ears are uncomfortable.

pair

After reading the appearance, then pairing.

The official specification mentions that it supports Android 5.0 and above, and iOS 10 and above operating systems. iPhone users are happy to see here, but….

But later on, the pairing thing needs to be tested with three mobile phones: Pixel phone, non-Pixel Android phone (here I use Note 8 as an example), iPhone (iOS11.2).

Note 8 and Pixel phones are quite simple, first turn on the Bluetooth on the phone, then open the cover of the Pixel Buds, press and hold the small black button on the right side of the box for three seconds, the light will turn white and flash, and you can pair. , the notification link of Pixel Buds will automatically appear on the phone, click it to connect.

The first stage: general Bluetooth headset

The iPhone can also be connected~ I'm really happy~ So I'm going to share the but thing next.

After the initial connection is made, there is no problem with playing/pausing music, adjusting the volume, and answering/hanging up the phone, but there is no such function as music pause when one ear is removed. (To change the song is not to double-click, but to call out Google Assistant or Siri to change).

At this point, the Pixel Buds are still used as general Bluetooth.

Stage 2: Google Assistant

But of course Pixel Buds are not only, it also has Google Assistant and translation functions!

If you want to use Google Assistant through this headset, it can only be used with mobile phones with Android 6 or above. The latest version of Google App must be installed in the mobile phone, and the mobile phone must be connected when using it. Even if you have the Google Assistant app on your iPhone, you can't use the Pixel Buds to launch it.

The usage is to press and hold the right ear to speak, you can start Google Assistant, continue to press and hold to say the command you want.

(The above is a situational photo, in fact, you don't need to take out your phone.)

Although there are mobile phone limitations, when paired with Google Assistant, you can use this headset to make calls, send messages, write down shopping lists, reminders, listen to/add calendars, ask questions, etc., etc. Google Assistant has function and hear the answer from the headset.

People who are already using Google Assistant can indeed have a more convenient situation with Pixel Buds, like plugging Google Home into their ears.

One of them was encountered during a small trial. I found it very convenient to tap the right ear twice, and the headset will tell the time and tell you what notifications are coming. (But this is through Google Assistant, so the content is limited to supported languages).

There are many people who have Android 6 or above mobile phones, but because Google Assistant does not support Chinese at present, so you need to call out Google Assistant on the mobile phone, switch the mobile phone language to English, or other supported languages you know*, long press the Home button Take a look, and then operate in that language throughout.

Then you can actually call out Siri

On Android, Google Assistant is called out. When paired with an iPhone, long-pressing the right ear can activate Siri (but the response time is slightly longer). After activating Siri, it should be clear to everyone.

Stage 3: Translation

When you see this, you may continue to want to say, uh... iPhone can't use GA, and GA doesn't have Chinese... But it doesn't matter, Google Assistant doesn't support Chinese yet, it can't be used in the first place, the important thing is that the translation can be used. Good, but!

To use the kind of translation situation that can be spoken through headphones, it can only be used with Pixel phones (either first or second generation).

At this point, you may want to leave.

Don’t worry, if it doesn’t work, you have to try it and see if you feel more at ease. Let’s take a look at the difference in translation between Pixel Buds and Pixel phones, and other Androids and iPhones.

There are two ways to translate a conversation. One is to open Google Translate directly to have a conversation without using Google Assistant.

We use a short video to demonstrate this process ~ because we don't need to go through Google Assistant, this is more suitable for us who want to translate foreign languages.

Basically, long press the right ear to speak Chinese to the earphone, and then play the foreign language from the mobile phone to the other party.

As for this method, you can choose the language on both sides, but after watching the demonstration, you may want to say: ah, both of them are using mobile phones and open Google Translate, can they also have a conversation?

Yes, that's right.

So why do you want Pixel Buds?

The difference between pairing with Pixel Buds is that the posture of the conversation is more natural. If two people are wearing Pixel Buds and holding a Pixel phone, it will look more natural. Try it for an afternoon. This is what I think of now. Go to the dialogue and translate it, you can come and share your in-depth experience with us~

The second method is to long press the right ear to start Google Assistant, and then speak the sentence directly, but I can't record the sound in the earphone, so I have to express it in words~

The difference through Google Assistant is ~

1. You don't have to manually turn on Google Translate.

2. But ask questions in a language supported by Google Assistant. (That's why the first method is more suitable for us)

The process and process of translating with Pixel Buds is roughly like this. In fact, it is better to go outside to find a foreigner to have a conversation with, and we will arrange it when we have a chance.

As for the accuracy of translation, firstly, it depends on how to ask the question, and secondly, it is the quality of Google Translate. Let’s try it out by opening the dialogue mode in Google Translate, and you can roughly know it.

So what happens to non-Pixel Android phones if you want to translate?

The main difference is that for non-Pixel phones, the translated foreign language is played in the headset, not from the phone, so it cannot be played to the other party.
