When the drain power supply voltage ED is constant, if the gate voltage is more negative, the depletion region formed by the PN junction interface is thicker, and the drain and source electrodes are connected. The narrower the conductive channel between the two, the smaller the drain current ID; on the contrary, if the gate voltage is not so negative, the channel becomes wider and the ID becomes larger, so the change of the drain current ID can be controlled by the gate voltage EG , that is, the FET is a voltage-controlled element.
2. Insulated gate field effect transistor
1. Classification of insulated gate field effect transistors (MOS tubes): Insulated gate field effect transistors also have two structural forms, which are N-channel type and P-channel type. No matter what the channel is, they are divided into two types: enhancement type and depletion type.

There are two working modes of the FET: when the gate voltage is zero, the drain current is larger, which is called dissipative type; when the gate voltage is zero, the drain current is also zero, and a certain gate voltage must be added. Only the drain current is called enhancement type.
