General description

BQ2040 gas meter with SMBUS interface IC is used in battery packs or system installations to maintain accurate records of battery power. The BQ2040 directly supports the capacity monitoring of the chemical composition of nickel -cadmium, nickel -metal hydride and lithium -ion battery.

BQ2040 uses the system management bus V1.0 (SMBUS) protocol and supports the smart battery data (SBDATA) command. BQ2040 also supports SBData charging control functions. The charging status, remaining capacity, remaining time and chemical properties of the battery can be obtained through serial links. Use a four -stage LED display to directly indicate the battery charging state, and display the battery from full to empty by graphic by 25%increment.

The BQ2040 is based on the internal timer and temperature sensor and the user's programmable rate information stored in the external EEPROM to estimate the self -discharge of the battery. During the entire discharge cycle from full to empty, the BQ2040 will automatically re -calibrate or learn " battery capacity.

BQ2040 can run directly from three nickel chemical batteries. Through the REF output and external crystal tube
