Texas Instruments ISO121x Isolated Digital Input Receivers are isolated 24V to 60V digital input receivers that meet IEC 61131-2 Type 1, 2, and 3 characteristics. These devices are suitable for use with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and motor control digital input modules. Unlike traditional optocoupler solutions with discrete, imprecise current-limiting circuits, ISO121x devices provide an easy-to-use, low-power solution with precise current limiting. With this feature, compact high-density I/O modules can be designed. These devices require no field-side power supply and can be configured as either sourcing or sinking inputs.

The ISO121x operates from a 2.25V to 5.5V supply voltage range and supports 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V controllers. With ±60V input tolerance with reverse polarity protection, it helps to ensure that the input pins are protected in the event of an easily overlooked reverse current fault. These devices support data rates up to 4Mbps with a minimum pulse width of 150ns for high-speed operation. The ISO1211 device is ideal for designs that require channel-to-channel isolation, while the ISO1212 device is ideal for multi-channel space-constrained designs.
