The ADA4961 is a high performance BiCMOS RF digital gain amplifier (DGA) optimized for driving heavy loads (≥2.0 GHz). It achieves typical IMD3 performance of ~90 dBc at 500 MHz and ~85 dBc at 1.5 GHz. This RF performance enables the best performance of GHz-level converters and, unlike typical GaAs amplifiers, has minimal constraints on the driver amplifier or overall power consumption. The device can easily drive 10-bit to 16-bit HS converters.
Antialiasing filter (AAF) design can be simplified or eliminated for many receiver applications.
The ADA4961 has an internal differential input impedance of 100 Ω and a differential dynamic output impedance of 50 Ω, eliminating the need for external termination resistors. The digital trim capability has 1 dB resolution to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) over a 21 dB input level range.
The ADA4961 has high bandwidth and low distortion performance up to 2 GHz. These features, along with wide gain adjustment and relatively low power consumption, make it the amplifier of choice for many high-speed applications, including IF, RF, and broadband applications where dynamic range at very high frequencies is critical.
Not only is the ADA4961 ideal for driving analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), it can also be used in mixers, PIN diode attenuators, SAW filters, and multi-component discrete devices. It is packaged in a 4mm × 4mm, 24-lead LFCSP and has an operating temperature range of ?40°C to +85°C.
